PHILADELPHIA -- Altoona Area High School rising sophomore Brionna Hudson placed 11th in the high jump at the recent New Balance Track and Field Nationals meet.
Hudson jumped 5 feet, 7.25 inches.
The Altoona girls 4×800-meter relay team finished in 28th place, as did Altoona's Annalyse Yost in the javelin.
In the freshman boys division, Hollidaysburg's Braelyn Ross was 15th (59.43) in the 400 hurdles, and Altoona's Hunter Kling was 19th (59.75).
Harker honored
WAYNESBURG -- Lilly native Jacob Harker of the Waynesburg University men's track & field program earned a spot on the 2024-25 Academic All-District Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators.
Harker is a junior and Bishop Carroll Catholic High School graduate.
Harker, a criminal justice major with a 3.91 GPA, was a USTFCCCA All-Region selection in the shot put for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He swept President Athletic Conference titles in the event and set team records in the shot put, hammer throw and weight throw during his sophomore campaign. He ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic in the shot put during the indoor season and finished tied for fifth outdoors.
Duo recognized
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Lock Haven University softball players Riley Best and Maci Brodzine were named to the 2024-25 Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II All-American Scholar-Athlete team, the organization announced.
Best, a Glendale High School graduate, and Brodzine, a Tyrone Area High School graduate were named 2025 Scholar All-Americans. Best maintains a 3.67 grade-point average in Health Science, and Brodzina has a 3.975 in Health & Physical Education.
To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.5, or higher, grade-point-average during the 2024-25 academic year.
Best and Brodzina were also named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team last month.
