Colts looking at Steichen

PHOENIX — Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen is the leading candidate to be the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, a person familiar with the team’s decision told The Associated Press.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Sunday.

Pirates sign two players

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates signed catcher Kevin Plawecki and left-handed pitcher Caleb Smith as minor league free agents on Sunday.

Plawecki and Smith will attend big league camp as non-roster invitees. A total of 67 players will now be in big league camp when the Pirates hold their first workout for pitchers and catchers on Wednesday.

IOC’s Bach defends view

COURCHEVEL, France — Insisting sports had to respect the human rights of all athletes, International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach on Sunday denied that the organization was on the wrong side of history by helping Russians and Belarusians qualify for the 2024 Paris Summer Games.
