Northern Cambria has produced its share of coaches
I read the recent article about Moshannon Valley High School’s contributions to high school football head coaching positions, which is very impressive.
Northern Cambria High School has also produced a significant number of graduates who became head coaches, most of whom played for Dan Miller, who is in the Pennsylvania Scholastic Coaches Hall of Fame.
They include Barnesboro High School graduate Hugh “Duffy” Daugherty at Michigan State, Spangler High School graduate George “Skinny” Magulick at Spangler High School (after a stint as a player with the Steelers), Northern Cambria graduates Steve Magulick (Tyrone and Northern Cambria), Sam Rocco (Northern Cambria), Jerry Dolges (Blacklick Valley, Bill “Shorty” Shortencarrier (Cambria Heights and assistant at Saint Francis), Joe Nastasi (Northern Bedford), Gary Steele (University of Pennsylvania), Tim Laurito (Cambria Heights and assistant at University of Nebraska, Coffeyville, Clarion and Saint Francis), Dave “Racky” Rackavan (Purchase Line and assistant coaching positions at Penn and Dartmouth), Frank Paronish (Northern Cambria), Paul Taranto (Northern Cambria), Andy Paronish (Northern Cambria), Jim Price (Purchase Line), Paul Shutty (Northern Cambria), Rick Artley (Blairsville), Rich Wiewiora (Cambria Heights).
A side note: Joe Restic lived in the Barnesboro district but later graduated from Hastings Elder High School and went on to be the head coach at Harvard University from 1971 to 1993.
Just like Mo Valley, that is a very significant list for a small school.
