PITTSBURGH -- It was being reported by The Athletic late Tuesday night that the Pittsburgh Penguins signed a contract extension with veteran Evgeni Malkin.
Malkin, one of the long-time stars of the team, was to hit the free agent mark which was set to begin today The deal is reported as four years for $24.4 million.
General manager Ron Hextall praised Malkin on the Pens' Twitter account.
"Evgeni is a generational talent who will be remembered as one of the greatest players in NHL history. His hockey resume and individual accomplishments speak volumes about him as a player, and we are thrilled to watch him continue his remarkable legacy in Pittsburgh."
