The additions of USC and UCLA into the Big Ten in 2024 will brighten the traditional Big Ten brand of historic American universities and their athletic programs.
In four ways, these additions will benefit Penn State.
First, it will bring more revenue to State College and the surrounding communities, via fans of these universities.
Secondly, the growing conference will also help Penn State recruit more major talent, giving athletes the opportunity to play against UCLA and USC, schools possibly too far away to consider for those on the east coast.
Third, the Big Ten will be able to finally nearly challenge the upper echelon Southeastern Conference.
And fourth, this puts Penn State in the national spotlight even more.
With the addition of the two California schools, the Big Ten now has a far much better recruiting chance to have a national champion and defeating an SEC team --what many here in Happy Valley would love to see.
The last Big Ten football national champion was Ohio State in 2014.
With the addition of UCLA and USC into the Big Ten in 2024, there is still plenty of time left to add Oregon, Stanford or Washington.

Houston would be attractive, too
I just saw the news on USC and UCLA.
If the Big Ten is really considering that type of expansion, I would suggest that they also look at Houston --the fourth-largest city in the country.
It would also give the Big Ten added access to recruiting Texas. The greater Houston area produces some of the best college players in the country year after year. Harris County makes up that greater Houston area.
Texas is going to the SEC with Oklahoma in a few years, and Houston is now going to the Big 12.
The Big Ten would be wise to look south while they are looking to the west coast.
