It has been a while, but once again my wife and I get ready for a trip to my hometown, Altoona.
The Blair County Sports Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony are being held on April 9.
The committee that hosts and puts the affair together are to be congratulated on a wonderful evening.
I moved from the city over 50 years ago, but I still call Altoona home. When being introduced to a stranger, I will tell them where I live, but that I was born and raised in Altoona.
The weekend will be filled with old friends, family and reunions with people I have not seen in years. All of it will be enjoyable.
The old established venues like Texas Hot Dogs, Finelli's Italian Villa, Tom and Joes, and maybe even Dave's Dream. I know it is now just called The Dream.
I am sure that other people who left town and return for visits have their own special places that they try to visit while in town.
Speaking as one who left Altoona a long time ago and only gets home once or twice a year, I can honestly say I left my heart in Altoona.
Thanks to all who helped in laying the foundation for my future -- the Altoona Area School District, the city and the people.
I am in the fourth quarter of my life, and the memories are still rolling through my mind, and they are all wonderful.
