Free lunch served

Fourth Street Church of God will serve the monthly lunch from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3. The New Year’s meal will include sauerkraut with pork and hot dogs, mashed potatoes, drink and dessert.

Food pantry available

The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16 and Friday, Jan. 30, by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-207-8293.

Free soup program begins

St. Michael Catholic Church, Montgomery and Spruce streets, will begin the Hollidaysburg Churches’ Free Soup Program for 2026. The church will host the lunches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 10 and Jan. 17. There will be hot soup, bread, butter, dessert and choice of coffee, tea and water. The meal is free; donations accepted.

The rest of the schedule is as follows:

Jan. 24, Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 – First Presbyterian Church, Penn and Walnut streets.

Feb. 14 and Feb. 21 – St. Mary Catholic Church, Mulberry and Clark streets.

Feb. 28 and March 7 – St. John’s Reformed Church, 906 Maple Avenue.

March 14 and March 21 – Hollidaysburg Church Of The Brethren – Penn & Hawthorne streets.

Free lunch offered

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s Community Lunch will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 14, in the fellowship hall at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1407 Eighth Ave., right down the street from St Luke’s. The menu this month is pork, sauerkraut, baked beans, applesauce and dessert. The meal is free; donations are welcome.

Night of worship scheduled

Holy Spirit Ministry will host a night of worship with eucharistic adoration from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at St. Michael Church, Hollidayburg. Father Brian Norris will be praying for vocations; praise and worship music will be led by the worship team. Prayer ministry will conclude the evening.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser set

The Men’s Club of St. Mary and St. Michael Parish in Hollidaysburg will be hosting a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the St. Mary Social Hall, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg. All proceeds are dedicated to seminarians of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese. The dinner features both dine in or take out meals, and includes spaghetti, meatballs, bread sticks, salad, drink and dessert. In addition, a basket raffle will also be held with winners to be drawn at 7 p.m.

Dinner tickets can be purchased in advance, as only a limited number of dinner tickets will be available for walk up purchase. Cost is $10 for adult dinner and $5 for children ages 10 and younger. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the parish office at 814-695-0912 or by contacting John Elder at 814-270-1051.

Coin club begins

A Coin Club will be offered at The Faith Baptist Church of Altoona starting Saturday, Jan. 10. The club will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. in the church basement. Each participant will be required to purchase two Penny Books to display pennies from 1959 to 2025. Pennies will be provided to search for needed dates to complete books. Cost of the books is $10.

MLK service planned

Christ Community UMC, 5715 Roselawn Ave. Altoona, will host a service to honor the work and ministry of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18. All are welcome.

Soup sale announced

Greenwood United Methodist Church, 1505 E. Walton Ave., is holding a soup sale. Cost is $9 for a quart of soup and a half loaf of bread. Soups include chicken corn rival, ham and bean or stuffed pepper. Orders are due by Sunday,

Jan. 18. Orders can be picked up from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 24. To order, call 814-946-3862.

Wreath of Christ services set

Take a breath in the midst of a busy week with a short, contemplative prayer service at Zion Lutheran Church, 500 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg. Services are held Wednesdays, Jan. 14

and Jan. 28. The “Wreath of Christ” prayer service uses beads, chimes and breathing exercises for a meditative midweek reset. Bring your own Wreath of Christ or borrow a set of ours for use during the service. Use the Union Street entrance. The service is in the church theater, located in the basement.
