Government workers are not above the law

Could someone please explain to me how government representatives that are sworn into office and swear to uphold the laws and the Constitution of the U.S.A. can knowingly and proudly break our laws and then avoid prosecution? The unlawful attacks with words and actions, by these anti-ICE hate-spewers, who don’t care if they are endangering the lives of these agents and their families, just keeps getting worse. Why do these government workers think they are above the laws? Are we not the United States of America? Are we not a sovereign nation with borders? How can we have ...

Logan Valley Mall could be prison site

Logan Valley Mall would be a good option for a prison. The building is in place, all that would need done is renovations inside. It is close to the courthouse. No excavation would need to be done. It’s kind of a no-brainer as far as cost goes. Helen Brennan Duncansville

Protect the future and our children

It’s not “woke” to want to protect our children. Some will feel discussing the implications of the Texas flooding deaths so soon after the tragedy is disrespectful. The same was said following school shootings at Sandy Hook and Uvalde. I believe that this is exactly the right moment. Delay means that problems get swept under the rug. Unusual weather events that have become all too commonplace should ignite a national discussion about the climate crisis. The energy lobby has bought and paid for our politicians and buried the truth for many decades. Although no single incident can ...

There is no excuse for child abuse

Another child abused in our area. Altoona, Claysburg, Roaring Spring, Bedford, etc. In other words, come to Pennsylvania if you want to abuse your infant, toddler, your child. This poor baby girl expects to be loved and cared for, not be a punching bag for her parents. Yes, both adults are responsible. I am 5 feet tall; if I saw a 12-foot monster coming at me I would bite him also. This dear little one was beaten from head to toe — you could buy a punching bag for $30 at Walmart. Why are you young women having babies with so much birth control available? I bet this father ...

Arborists inspecting Hollidaysburg trees

As a member of the Hollidaysburg Shade Tree Commission, I would like to tell you about a new program the Hollidaysburg Borough has received. Over the next few weeks, certified arborists from the Davey Resource Group will be conducting a comprehensive assessment of all street and park trees throughout the borough. These assessments are solely to locate, identify and catalog all of the public-access trees in Hollidaysburg. You may see arborists working in your neighborhood or near your property. We kindly ask borough residents for their cooperation and courtesy as the arborists carry out ...

Superloads frustrating for drivers

The moving of windmill “superloads” on area roadways to their destination near Patton in Cambria County in coming weeks will necessitate much more than a modicum of patience and understanding by motorists who encounter them during their travels — to work, for medical and dental appointments, for recreational intentions, for household reasons, whatever. Perhaps too much is being asked of those motorists who encounter them, and we’ll explain why later in this editorial. For now, suffice to say that the size and length of superload caravans will not be conducive to traditional ...
