Restoring Gable’s building not worth it

To even remotely consider it prudent to spend millions of dollars to restore the Gable’s building is total insanity. Having personally worked in the building for 13 years, I have felt it sway from the earthquake that hit Richmond, Va., and even more so when an adjacent structure was torn down. No engineering study could ever convince me that the building is safe. The unfortunate reality of the situation is that the only sensible future for the property is to tear the Gable’s building and adjacent parking garage down. Officials must stand up for truth, justice

It’s time for accuracy, not lies. Let’s get the record straight. Alexi Pretti was not a domestic terrorist as some Trump supporters claim. Once again the Trump administration is spreading inaccurate information and lies about Pretti and his intent. He was a nurse and citizen who was only recording the ICE brutality that existed in Minneapolis and helping a lady who was being unfairly attacked by ICE. None of the lies being spewed by the Trump administration are accurate. Video and witness accounts verify that account. When are we as sane law-abiding citizens going to hold this ...

Vaccinations should not be political

COVID-19, beyond sickening many millions of people in this country and, in fact, worldwide, as well as exacting a heavy death toll, greatly ramped up a broad debate about the safety of vaccines, including those developed to try to end the pandemic. That safety debate continues today, despite the successes and knowledge that have emanated from medical science’s battle against the coronavirus. Recent years seem to have verified that as long as mankind exists, some skepticism about vaccine safety will continue to walk side by side with the complete confidence that others hold in regard ...

The age of not so happy times

Not long ago, a Charlie Kirk comment could cost your job or land you in jail. But Rob and Michele Reiner’s killing is TDS and acceptable. They were deranged. Did you read Reiner’s Kirk comments? For 15 years, Republicans and Trump have promised a new health care plan. And now it’s finally here. ACA subsidies are eliminated and SNAP is cut to the bone. Millions will lose health care. Republicans’ core value: life should be hard and cruel. John Joyce voted for this. Will he meet with these constituents? Tell these working people why? Democrats put forward a War Powers Act to ...

What causes decline in students’ performance?

In my opinion, the recent decline in students’ performance is mainly driven by two developments: 1. More screen time This includes smart phone usage, social media, technology in classroom and AI in education. Today, students rarely need to struggle in learning. Whatever they want, whenever they need, it is delivered to them by their digital personal assistant. They receive large quantities of information without developing knowledge and skills. But human cognition is not designed for this. Productive struggle and “headache” accompany deep thinking is an essential part of ...
