Kids aren’t picky; parents make them so

It’s not my fault that my kids are picky eaters, I learned today. But it’s my fault if I don’t fix it. That’s what I gleaned from a recent article by Helen Zoe Veit, the author of a forthcoming book called “Picky: How American Children Became the Fussiest Eaters in History.” Children are not naturally picky, Veit tells us in her piece. Not at all. In fact, children are voracious eaters of vinegar and raw oysters and tiny crabs still in the shells. They are not engineered to demand Lunchables, then only eat the cheese out of the package and the second you cave and buy 10 ...

Are Americans losing their faith in US?

Bailing out doesn’t help America. Neither does “running away” from issues or burying one’s head in the proverbial sand. The well-being of America is too important to resort to such “solutions” but apparently much of that is happening, and Americans should be deeply concerned. “In its 250th year, is America, land of immigration, becoming a country of emigration?” the Wall Street Journal asked in a Feb. 27 front-page article. “America’s own citizens are leaving in record numbers, replanting themselves and their families in lands they find more affordable and ...

Trump must get ready for blowback

It is a special kind of folly to make long-term predictions amid the fog of war. Nobody knows how Operation Epic Fury will end. But there are already a few things we can celebrate and condemn. On the celebration side: The professionalism and courage of the American military stand out. So does the just demise of Ayatollah Khamenei, amid scores of his murderous henchmen. Other things worth celebrating are merely possibilities at this point. If the nearly half-century of Iranian repression at home and terrorism abroad is poised to end, along with Iran’s nuclear ambitions, that would be ...

What history demands we remember

These are no longer theoretical debates confined to policy forums. The conflict is widening. American servicemen have now been lost. Regional nations are absorbing casualties. Retaliation cycles are accelerating. Here is the reality: Iran has long advanced its nuclear program, and the international community has repeatedly warned that enrichment capability could move beyond peaceful energy into weapons. International inspectors have acknowledged they cannot fully verify all aspects of Iran’s activities. Uranium enriched to levels closer to weapons grade has existed in stockpiles, ...

DHS remains unfunded despite threats

As America’s conflict with Iran continues, the Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement about the heightened risk of lone wolf attacks. Yet the agency tasked with keeping Americans safe — one of the few responsibilities just about everyone agrees is appropriate for government — remains unfunded as Congress bickers over immigration politics. Congressional negotiators reached a deal to fund the federal government but outrage over President Donald Trump’s deportation tactics pushed Democrats to defund DHS. The agency has been in a shutdown since Feb. 14. Both ...

Taking Maduro not about drugs or oil

In the coming weeks we should not be surprised to hear the President announce that Venezuelan President, Nicholas Maduro has confirmed that they interfered in the 2020 election. And that the interference was in blue counties and states, confirming that the 2020 election was stolen. And they will find a way to link Maduro with records that the FBI seized from Fulton County, Georgia. It is clear that you cannot deal with a delusional president. Not sure what his actions might be next, but one way or another, Trump has no intention of losing power or leaving office. If you think oil or ...
