Now that the Orchard Park dispute has been resolved, an upgrade is in order.
Some of the city parks have benches, pavilions, tables, play equipment, etc. A pavilion with picnic tables and benches throughout the park would certainly be used and appreciated.
This park is located in a beautiful setting, surrounded by family-owned homes in a low traffic area. At public council meetings, the city claimed that replacing Orchard Park with housing would increase the neighborhood property value. This claim is a total misrepresentation, because the park holds its own value and adds to its surroundings.
If Council's primary interest is property values, they should properly equip Orchard Park.
City management should refer to their 2024 "All Together Altoona" -- A comprehensive plan for our future.
According to the plan Part 2, page 43, investments in parks benefit neighborhoods.
