Letter writer had right idea

2 min read

I agree with the letter writer about hypocrisy in Christianity. As a pastor I have been dealing with it for almost 50 years.

The writer cleverly tied together politics and Christian hypocrisy. He knows what the Bible teaches "about loving our neighbors," but evidently, he doesn't think the Bible has anything to say about "what people read, what they teach, whom they marry or what medical decisions they make." According to him, it is hypocritical to only follow those parts of the Bible that fit our belief system.

Concerning "what people read," the Bible teaches us not to read smutty, immoral materials. The early church had a huge book burning of bad books. There are books that should be banned, especially in places of learning.

Regarding "what they teach," children should not be subjected to the teachings of the LGBTQ+ community by their teachers in any school. The Bible has much to say about this lifestyle; none of it is good.

As to "whom they marry," the Bible leaves no doubt that marriage is between a biological man and a biological woman, only.

With reference to "what medical decisions they make," the Bible is very clear in its definition of a man and a woman, and no number of medical procedures can change that.

The letter writer is right that Christians should follow God's Word to love your neighbor, but it is hypocritical, in his words, to ignore "the parts of the Gospel that are less than useful" to us.
