Motorized bike issues need taken seriously

2 min read

Unfortunately, the City of Altoona has opened the door for very disturbing and dangerous behavior of teens and some adults.

Knowing drugs is a huge issue, I’m sure any complaint otherwise lodged, maybe filed away for sometime in the future. I am speaking of the problem of motorized bikes that are taking over our roadways.

This summer has been unbearable on Hudson Avenue. My husband made a call to the Altoona Police, leaving a voicemail of concern regarding them, but never received a call back.

We daily witness kids, no more than 13 or 14, racing up and down the Avenue and blowing through stop signs. The noise of these bikes is deafening.

What gives these children the right to operate unlicensed motorized vehicles on a public roadway?

Hudson Avenue accommodates Altoona High cross country students, many, many walkers, and most with pets. I wonder what kind of parent would allow their child on these vehicles, racing at a high speed and disregarding stop signs. These parents should be arrested!

This needs to be taken more seriously. Today, my husband and I, while walking our dog, witnessed a young woman on one of these bikes, holding a baby in one arm.

When is enough, enough?
