The Declaration of Independence starts with "we the people." The people of the United States have often held opinions contrary to their government's actions. Public demonstrations exerted pressure from "the people" which ended the Vietnam conflict.
Locally, there have been two marches protesting the government's reduction of Medicaid reimbursements for nursing homes. This affected funding for the poorest nursing home residents and is causing the homes to have financial difficulties, including closures.
Nationally, there have been "No Kings" demonstrations in every state with 7 million marchers. This was the largest single day protest march in the nation's history. Once again "we the people" have spoken.
To date, the Republican majority in the U.S. Congress is ignoring their constituents. Are they representing "we the people?"
