It's time for Pennsylvania to get serious about fiscal responsibility. Every year, families, seniors, and small businesses across our Commonwealth are expected to live within our means and our government should do the same.
A balanced budget isn't just good accounting, it's constitutionally mandated in our Commonwealth.
Gov. Josh Shapiro seems to have forgotten this, since he's consistently called for a budget that has billions more in spending compared to the revenue that Pennsylvania is actually bringing in.
The burden ultimately falls on us, the taxpayers, to foot the bill for Shapiro's spending binge.
Thankfully, our Pennsylvania state Senate, controlled by Republicans, is holding the line and preventing Gov. Shapiro from wasting our tax dollars. The Senate Republicans understand that a balanced budget ensures that money is spent efficiently and carefully.
Meanwhile, Shapiro and the Democrats in the PA House of Representatives simply want to spend more than what we have, which would be irresponsible and lead to all of us having to pay more in the long run.
We can invest in education, infrastructure, and public safety while still keeping our finances in order. What we cannot afford is to continue kicking the can down the road.
I thank our PA Senate Republicans for holding the line on overspending for the sake of taxpayers.
I hope that Shapiro and the Democrat-controlled House can come to the table and pass a truly balanced, transparent budget that keeps our Commonwealth's future solvent.
