National Advanced Practice Providers Week is being celebrated Sept. 22-26. This year's theme "Racing Toward the Future: Celebrating APPs" underscores the forward momentum of the APP profession and its pivotal role in advancing care, improving access to care and driving innovation in clinical practice. It is a week set aside to celebrate, honor and recognize the invaluable contributions and pivotal role APPs play in our health care system.
The UPMC Altoona Advanced Practice Provider Committee in coordination with UPMC Altoona would like to recognize the outstanding care and APPsolute excellence that our APPs provide to all our patients as part of the annual APP week celebration.
The term "APP" encompasses a variety of health care professionals, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists and certified nurse midwives. They are graduates of master, post-master or doctoral programs with advanced clinical preparation. We recognize and celebrate these providers who are certified and licensed to assess patients, order and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose, treat and manage illnesses, prescribe medications, perform a multitude of clinical procedures depending on their specialty and conduct clinical research in management of the whole individual. These professionals play a crucial role in bridging health care gaps, particularly amid physician shortages.
