Bill makes it easier to get gun silencers

2 min read

President Donald Trump's Big Beautiful Bill passed out of the U.S. House the other day and is headed for the U.S. Senate.

I have a gripe with that bill.

Do you remember where you were Dec. 17, 2012?

I remember where I was, and will remember forever.

Dec. 17 was the Monday after the Friday school shooting at Sandy Hook with 26 deaths. I was consulting in a first-grade classroom (same as Sandy Hook) with 20 precious little children (same as Sandy Hook) in one of our local elementary schools.

I repeatedly stepped out of the room so those children didn't see me weep, because those children would not have wanted me to be so upset and would have wanted to help me, because that's who virtuous 6-year-olds are.

What does the Big Beautiful Bill do for innocent 6-year-olds? It makes it easier for school shooters to kill higher numbers of them because it makes it easier for those shooters to obtain silencers for their guns.

Active shooter plans in school rely heavily on the actions taken after the sound of gunshots. With silencers on their guns, shooters will go undetected for longer periods of time and be able to kill more children and a sad commentary on how utterly uncaring and stupid we are.

We know U.S. Rep. John Joyce voted for this bill, now we wait to see if U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick votes for the bill as is or if he tries to change this provision on silencers.
