The long-running Broadway show and movie, "Funny Girl," featured a song where Barbra Streisand fervently pleads, "Don't Rain on My Parade!" Before it is too late, I contend that the American public, Congress, and the D.C. government should do everything in their power to thwart President Donald Trump's military parade extravaganza on June 14, Trump's birthday.
I am a longtime supporter of our military and veterans. However, I strongly suggest spending millions on such a military showcase parade is going too far.
Why not use those hard-earned tax dollars to bolster the defense budget.
While Trump, Elon Musk, and his U.S. secretaries are making deep financial and staffing cuts to programs and agencies which provide critical services to all Americans, these short-sighted individuals are proposing an extravagant military parade to showcase our military might and celebrate the Army's 250 years.
We know the true purpose is to celebrate Trump's 79th birthday. I contend that there are alternative ways to celebrate the Army's birthday by working with state and local communities to sponsor events where more citizens can be involved.
Let your objections be heard. The American public wants more than a parade to display our military might. We want a government that is responsive to the needs of all hard working Americans. Our military strength comes from being the leader of the Free World. The rain must fall on Trump's ill-conceived parade.
