Penn State alumni urged to vote

All Penn State alumni (and many former students) can vote for up to three candidates in Penn State’s alumni trustee election at PennStateVotes.com. Trustees set Penn State’s roadmap for the future. I’m voting for three candidates who are trustworthy, smart and well-prepared to move Penn State forward: Uma Moriarity, Katherine Wheatle and Daniel Zahn.

Uma, an investment strategist, has spent her career supporting sustainable growth; she’ll help Penn State build financial resilience for the future.

Katherine worked her first full-time job at Penn State and knows the importance of treating Penn State employees fairly; since then, she’s become a higher education researcher, focusing on how to help students stay in school, save money, graduate on time and land in great careers.

Daniel, a nonprofit lawyer who focuses on free speech issues, is ready to promote transparency in university governance.

This election is so important because Penn State’s decisions impact not only students and their families, but also millions of Pennsylvanians — Penn State employees, communities shaped by commonwealth campuses and Pennsylvanians cared for or taught by Penn State alumni. I know this firsthand. I was born at the Altoona Regional Hospital, which employs many Penn State alumni. In elementary school, my piano recitals took place in Penn State Altoona’s Wolf-Kuhn Theatre, and I attended Outdoor School, run by Penn State’s nature center. My high school teachers went to Penn State, my siblings attended summer camp at University Park and my parents have been involved in the extension education program.
