The featured article, "A Real Lifesaver," along with the picture of fifth grader, Jaxson Koch, on the front page of the Feb. 19, 2025, Altoona Mirror, was just so heartwarming and is most worthy of recognition, honor and praise.
Jaxson observed a fourth grade student on the school bus who was choking on a bottle cap. By Jaxson's immediate action to perform the Heimlich Maneuver, he saved the other student's life.
Thumbs up to Jaxson for his courage, maturity and knowledge, which reflects highly on himself and his school, McAuliffe Heights at Irving. It is hoped that our local leaders in the City of Altoona will recognize Jaxson for saving a student's life. Jaxson didn't hesitate to take favorable action when he saw a need and did a good deed, which should be an example for each of us to follow in the community.
In addition, McAuliffe Heights at Irving and Baker Elementary schools deserve recognition for being deemed as two of the best elementary schools in the Commonwealth of PA by U.S. News & World Report. Thumbs up to those teachers, students and parents for their hard work and efforts.
