Trump didn’t follow law with pardons

As a person who respects the rule of law, I was appalled to learn about one of Donald Trump’s first decisions as president. Unconditionally pardoning the 1,500-plus rioters who stormed the Capitol, and then were found guilty of doing so, flies in the face of all of us who support the rule of law.

Such a foolish and brazen move is not surprising for this president, a convicted felon himself. He says he supports the police and then issues a pardon of those who stormed the Capitol in order to prevent the peaceful transition of power. This mob acted on Trump’s strong encouragement.

Now those people who testified about members of the mob’s assault on the Capitol are fearful of what those released felons might do to them and their families. They feel betrayed.

Trump’s complete pardon of all Jan. 6 rioters proves he once again has duped the American public. His own Vice President Vance said Trump would only pardon those found guilty of lesser Jan. 6 crimes, not a blanket pardon for all the convicted rioters.

With this unconditional pardon, Trump is not a law and order president. He once again makes decisions that only benefit him, not the safety of all Americans.

He also let down all the police forces in the USA and told the world that, in America, you can commit a major crime and Trump will pardon you.
