Inclusion is tolerance for religious identities
At the National Prayer breakfast on Feb. 6, President Donald Trump announced that he has appointed his Attorney General to come up with a task force to get rid of “anti-Christian bias in federal government.”
What is curious about that is when he declares war on DEI, does he not know that the word inclusion means tolerance and acceptance of all religious identities?
Religious identity is one of the factors of social identity.
Religious and spiritual beliefs are a critical component of someone’s identity and many religions place high value on community, Christianity is a majority religion in America (67% of our population are Christians) and enjoy privilege because many of the Christians with political power in this country do not face religious persecution, opposite of what Trump says.
However, they may feel they are ‘discriminated’ against when they are sanctioned for not ‘giving a seat at the table’ to minority religions in our multi-ethnic society.
To announce that the federal government is biased against Christians is an irrational reaction and prejudiced. Thomas Jefferson believed in separation of church (Amendment 1 of the Constitution) and Trump putting the Attorney General in charge of enhancing an already privileged majority of Christians in this country is feigned victimhood, exaggeration and a distortion of federal government practice.
Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Baha’i, Native Americans and Sikhs are minority religions in America and that is exactly what DEI policies protected. What is really happening here is promotion of the 2025 agenda of Christian Nationalism.
