Trump cabinet appointees a mistake
I am currently tending my wounds following the recent presidential election. I take some responsibility in not understanding the grievances of many on the right and not standing up against the ill-conceived identity policies of the far left.
I have always believed that all of us share far more than that in which we differ; the moment has escaped us.
The solution to all of this is not grievance, it is in understanding and moving forward.
I look at the requirements for cabinet posts and see a who’s who of those best positioned to insult the norms of institutions that have served us well over the years.
Are they perfect? No, they are not. I believe that we improve our lives by building on the past and adapting for the present and the future, not burning everything to the ground in a scorched earth policy.
I look at the potential cabinet officials and see the basis for appointment has little to do with experience and acumen; rather, it is about fealty and total acquiescence to the president. This is not a good management style.
Think for example of RFK as Health and Human Services secretary and an anti-vax crowd. Some of us remember polio, smallpox, rubella, measles and untold diseases that have been eradicated as a result of vaccines. Is this the type of policies that you really want?
Come on, let’s work together for the common good, not our puerile differences.
