There was a very interesting article on the Mirror editorial page concerning our state parks.
The article referred to the many areas of outdoor recreation that the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources oversees and the steady growth of that system.
Also pointed out, along with the environmental advantages, was the boost to the Pennsylvania economy, and the many outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, fishing, etc., that are available to be enjoyed year around.
The steady growth and expansion of our Conservation and Recreation System is the result of many dedicated and concerned individuals.
The DCNR personnel take their responsibilities seriously, the results of which the rest of us are the beneficiaries.
The Secretary of the DCNR is Cindy Adams Dunn.
Dunn has been with the DCNR since the 1990s. Our new governor, Josh Shapiro, wisely retained Dunn, who was also DCNR secretary in the Wolf administration.
I have heard her speak at several state related programs where she spoke of the ongoing programs and the goals of the agency that she manages.
She has achieved a bachelors and a master's degree in biology from Shippensburg University.
I had the pleasure of chatting with her in November of 2022 at a program in Laurelville, Westmoreland County.
She is personable, knowledgeable and dedicated.
Pennsylvania is fortunate to have Dunn as the leader of this important agency.
