From within, we all can make difference

I believe we are all a diamond in the rough.

I believe we all have the ability to transform a lump of coal into a diamond.

Transformation is a becoming, a new you and a better you.

Some of us may appear to be rough/tough on the outside, but in reality, we are soft and loving on the inside.

I believe it is the responsibility of parents, teachers, leaders, ministers and others to bring those hidden treasures to light.

A diamond in the rough generally possesses good character but lacks manners, education or know-how.

Many of us are passed over, and I can only speak from experience. I was once a child who had to put on a false face to make others believe I was a tough guy, but just under the skin, I had a soft heart of gold.

I was never in trouble with the law or associated with the criminal element, but I could have easily chosen that path if it weren’t for the many caring people who led by examples of honesty, trustworthiness, caring and integrity.

I was molded by the high standards set by my parents, neighbors, some teachers, friends, coaches and other outside influences within a caring community.

We can all do our part and make a difference. It only takes a caring, open mind and heart coupled with a hand extended.
