The announcement of the Supreme Court’s redistricting is a blow to our democracy. All that stands between us and tyranny are our laws and courts behaving in a non-partisan way to uphold these laws.

This is a Supreme Court dominated by reactionary ideologues who allow their personal views to turn back time to a shameful period in our history when African American citizen’s right to vote was suppressed or denied.

Passing the Voting Rights Act was a watershed moment, a cashing of our promissory note to fulfill the inalienable rights guaranteed to our citizens in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The Supreme Court is gutting that right with their decision. They know very well the outcome of gerrymandering. It is blatant in their intent to favor the party of their choosing.

They are letting our nation down when they assist a political party to remain in power by all available means such as gerrymandering or voter suppression tactics on a false pretext of voter fraud. The Supreme Court has failed in their core responsibility to our nation.

It is painful to watch our democracy in descent decision by decision while those responsible are deluding themselves that they are making America great again. Shame on them. History will judge them harshly for their dereliction of duty to God and country.
