Pressure mounts to end gerrymandering
It’s the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence; the revolution isn’t over. Philosophers and evolving historical events to present times have established that liberation is not the mere transfer of power from one oppressor to another but from a fundamental transformation of humanization.
Martin Luther King’s words of wisdom, “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor. It must be demanded by the oppressed,” applies today.
The Pennsylvania Legislature has become an oppressor to fair and just governing practices exacerbated by cheating or gerrymandering.
Pennsylvania citizens can and must demand an end to gerrymandering in PA. Relentless pressure on local and key legislators to bring PA House Bill 31 and PA Senate Bill 131 out of their state government committees for a passing vote before the 2026 legislative session ends is crucial toward advancing the time sensitive multi-step process to amend the PA Constitution; and establish by law an Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission for the 2031 redrawing of district lines.
Fair Districts PA is a nonpartisan volunteer group urging citizens to call visit or send postcards to their local legislators in the House and Senate and key members with controlling powers: Senate State Government Committee Chair Cris Dush, Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman, Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, House State Government Committee Chair Carol Hill-Evans, House Majority Leader Matt Bradford and House Speaker Joanna McClinton.
