Kennedy Center should remain as-is
It nauseates me to mention the Kennedys and Trumps in the same sentence — as they are polar opposites in every way. A sycophantic, hand-picked board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts voted illegally to add the name of Donald Trump to the memorial for our slain 35th president.
The Kennedys (except RFK Jr.) lived the phrase “… ask what you can do for your country.” Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy’s family gave three sons in service to the United States. Joe Jr., a Navy pilot, was killed in Europe flying a bombing mission during WWII. JFK, a Navy Lieutenant, served bravely in the South Pacific during that same war, and if you aren’t familiar with his heroics surrounding the sinking of PT-109, the vessel he commanded, Google it. As president, JFK was assassinated. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, a Navy veteran, was also assassinated. Sen. Ted Kennedy served in the U.S. Army. Despite vast wealth and high placed connections, none sought to avoid military service.
No member of the Trump family — going back generations — has ever served in the military. Trump’s five deferments, based on a dubious bone spurs diagnosis, is well documented. What have the Trumps ever given to this country? The answer is nothing. Spare me that Trump doesn’t take his presidential salary. JFK didn’t take his either. Furthermore, he did not use the presidency to enrich himself like Trump has and does. The Kennedys were courageous givers. The Trumps are cowardly takers.
