Staffing at UPMC can be improved

I saw on the news about the 40% shortage of nurses. I’d like to take this moment to say, hire more CNAs. Give them their own union if they haven’t got one. Train them to have the ability to switch IV meds and fluids.

If they hired medical assistants on the floors, they would be able to free up the nurses. Hire them on for a year with a signed contract. You have your RNs who give meds to people, you have LPNs who do the small jobs then have lower-level CNAs.

With you having CNAs and medical assistants, it would free up the RNs to be able to focus on the things they went to school to do. I would appreciate you looking into this matter.
