Lawmakers should stop Qatar base in US

2 min read

I am writing to express my profound alarm over the proposal to let Qatar build and operate an air force base on American soil. This isn't a simple diplomatic arrangement; it's an unprecedented erosion of our national sovereignty and security.

Permitting a foreign nation to establish its own military installation on our soil is a radical departure from policy. An independent foreign base is a sovereign foothold, not a joint training facility under U.S. command. It raises critical questions of legal authority and creates an unacceptable risk to American military technology and intelligence, with a foreign air force operating in our midst.

We must also consider Qatar's complicated foreign policy.

While hosting a crucial American base, Qatar also maintains relationships with groups and nations at odds with U.S. interests, like Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Allowing Qatar a base here effectively imports these volatile entanglements onto American soil, making our homeland a stage for distant conflicts.

This sets a dangerous precedent. If we allow Qatar this privilege, who is next? This is a slippery slope toward compromising our long-term security for short-term incentives. I urge our elected representatives to oppose this perilous venture and prioritize American sovereignty.
