Rose Marie Hornberger, lovingly known as "Sis," passed away peacefully on Monday at home after an extended illness. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Harry and Shirley (Cross) Horton and Larry Weyandt. She will be remembered for the love she had for her family, the memories she created and the special place she held in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Rose married the love of her life, William "Jeff" Hornberger, on Jan. 8, 1983. Their love story began long before their wedding day, as they had been together since they were just 14 years old. They grew up together, built a life together and shared a lifetime of love, memories and family. Their story was one of a love that began in childhood and lasted a lifetime.
Rose was a devoted mother to her four children: Jennifer, Jamie, Jeffrey and Gaige, who were the pride and joy of her life. She also welcomed Jennifer's husband, Adam, as her son-in-law and part of the family she cherished. But one of her most treasured roles was being "Meme" to her grandchildren: Grant, Allison, Max and Titus. They brought her endless happiness and gave her some of life's greatest joys.
Meme was their biggest supporter and their number one fan. She loved nothing more than watching Grant play baseball and cheering Allison on as she danced. Whether she was sitting in the stands, watching a performance or simply spending time with all four of her grandchildren, she was always their biggest cheerleader. Her love and pride for them knew no limits.
Rose enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved getting lost in a good book, watching her favorite black-and-white movies, playing bingo, bowling, camping and, most of all, spending time surrounded by the people she loved. It was the little moments and family memories that meant the most to her.
She is also survived by her loving siblings: Larry (Julie), Tracy (Rob), Lisa (Scott), John (Cathy) and Steve (Wendy); along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Nelson Horton.
Rose's love, laughter and the memories she created will live on through the family she cherished so deeply. Though she will be missed beyond words, her children and grandchildren will forever carry her love with them.
She will always be our Rose, our Sis and their beloved Meme. Forever our number one fan, and forever loved.
"A love that began at 14, a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love that will live on forever."
Friends and family will be received from 3 until the 5 p.m. Celebration of Life on Monday, Nov. 9, 2026, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
