Frances J. Snare

Nov. 26, 1928 – Oct. 10, 2026

Frances J. Snare, 97, of Sayre, passed away Saturday at the Sayre Personal Care Residence. She was formerly a resident of Wyalusing and Alexandria.

Frances was born in Woodbury Township, the daughter of Cloy and Verna (Gordon) Prough. She grew up on a small dairy farm in Sinking Valley.

On Dec. 5, 1950, she married Murray "Pete" Snare. Together, they owned and operated Snare's Grocery in Petersburg. Pete preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 2015.

Frances was a devoted member of Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church, where she became a member in 1945. At the time of her passing, she was the church's oldest and longest-

standing member, having been part of the congregation for 81 years. She was also an animal lover, and she and Pete adopted many cats and dogs throughout their nearly 65 years together.

In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Snare; her brother, William Prough; and her sister, Margaret Miller.

She is survived by her daughter, Tonda (Dave) Lewis of Millerstown; her granddaughter, Corinne (Andrew) Otis of Wyalusing; her stepgreat-grandson, Cayden Otis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sayre Personal Care Residence and Guthrie Hospice for the care, kindness and compassion they showed Frances.

Visitation will be held from 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, at Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a local animal shelter in Frances' memory.
