William Howard "Bill" Culp, of State College, passed away Thursday at Juniper Village. Born in Altoona, he is the son of the late William G. and Angeline (Muscatelli) Culp.
He was married for 43 years to the former V. Lynn Sanders, who preceded him in death in 2010.
Bill is survived by two children, William M. Culp of Port Matilda and Jennifer L. Vivas of State College; three grandchildren: Katherine L. Vivas, Matthew C. Vivas and Cora L. Culp; cousins, Marlene Kirsch of Altoona and Hilda Norton of Hagerstown, Md.; and his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Nita Sanders of Altoona.
Bill graduated from Altoona High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Air Force with the 4080th Organizational Maintenance Squadron from 1962-66.
He worked for Bell Telephone Co., later known as Verizon, in the Outside Facilities Engineering Department for almost 40 years before retiring.
In high school, Bill played clarinet in the marching band and continued to be a lifelong participant in the school's alumni band programs. Bill was a member of the Nittany Amateur Radio Club. He loved sports, especially baseball, and was a season-ticket holder for the State College Spikes.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he volunteered his time as an usher, sound board operator and served on the administrative board.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David R. McElwee officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
