Thomas L. ‘Tom’ Matthews

Thomas L. "Tom" Matthews, 84, of Duncansville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday at home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Lee and Marjorie (Piper) Matthews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen "Kathy" Matthews; and a brother, James Matthews.

Tom was a proud husband, father, grandfather and "Great."

On July 27, 1963, he married Kathleen M. Bleicher at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry. Together, they shared 54 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, family and countless cherished memories.

Tom was a 1960 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He retired from SKF USA Inc. after 30 years of service. He retired from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Department of Forestry, Ebensburg, after 40 years of service and having received several accolades as part of the Warden Helping in Prevention (WHIP) program.

Outside of work and family, Tom enjoyed Mopar cars and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a member of the Allegheny Club, Hollidaysburg, where he was previously on the board of governors. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Hollidaysburg, and the Heidelberg Country Club, Altoona, where he prided himself on being long-standing member #8.

He is survived by his children, Leanne (Walter) Dengler and Amanda (Dan) Hammel, both of Duncansville; his grandchildren: Nicole (Eric) Houghton, Lauren (Nick) Hawk, Andrea and Leah Hammel; and great-grandchildren, Everett and Elliott Hawk.

Tom leaves behind a legacy of love, family and memories that will remain with all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered and always loved.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the Family Hospice team for their compassionate care.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 704 Patrick Lane, Newry, with Father Allen P. Zeth officiating.

Graveside service will be held at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
