Jean Louise (Cowher) McPhail, 92, of Tyrone, died Saturday at the VA Hospital in Altoona. She was born in Tyrone, daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Singer) Cowher.
Jean, known as "Mickey Mouse," was preceded in death by her husband, William Francis McPhail I; and her son, William Francis McPhail II on May 21, 2026.
She is survived by her husband's brother, Daniel McPhail, and his children: Johnny "Trace" Zimmers, Jason, Karen, Eliza and Wyatt McPhail; a sister-in-law, Paula McPhail of Tyrone; and granddaughter, Jayne Keller (Sam).
Jean was a 1951 graduate of Tyrone High School and received her master's degree in education from Penn State University.
She had worked for Bell Telephone and served many years as an elementary teacher.
Jean served in the Navy Hospital Corps.
She enjoyed reading and following Penn State and Steelers football.
Family and friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, at Grace Baptist Church, 2308 Adams Ave., Tyrone, with Pastor Dan Woodring officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery, Tyrone.
