Janice Ann (Ritz) Hilling

Nov. 20, 1929 – Aug. 27, 2026

Hilling

Janice Ann Hilling, 96, formerly of James Creek, passed away Aug. 27, 2026, after a sudden fall. She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late James Robert and Carrie (Heacox) Ritz.

On Feb. 15, 1949, she married her only love of 77 years, William J. Hilling.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Janese Leidy (Robert Grant) of Shamong, N.J.; a son, W. Craig Hilling of Huntingdon; four grandchildren: Jessica Hilling-Keil (Michael), W. Justin Hilling (Kimberly), Taron Leidy (Meghan) and Tiara Nascimento (Tony); nine great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Lorelei, William and Emmett Keil, Willa and Thayer Hilling and Eleanor, Samuel and Thomas Leidy.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, James Robert and Ronald Watson Ritz.

Janice was a 1948 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. Even though she enjoyed the honor of being a majorette and was voted Valentine's Day Queen and Homecoming Court, she was secretly uncomfortable in front of an audience. Her gift was her ability to make friends. She made each person feel valued and loved. Her down-to-earth personality and witty sense of humor lasted until her last days.

She enjoyed boating, skiing, gardening and was a talented artist.

Janice was a member of Community Chapel of Hesston. Her love for her Lord and Savior was evident in the way she lived. If she had a last wish, it would be that all her friends and loved ones would know Jesus as she did.

Janice will leave a large hole in the hearts of those who loved her, but we know she is safe in the arms of the One she so often sang about ... "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know."

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg.
