James L. Hemcher, 78, formerly of Logan Township, died Thursday morning at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg. He was born in Altoona, son of the late James L. and Virginia (Gerlach) Hemcher.
On April 5, 1991, he married Cynthia L. Williams at Asbury United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2020.
Surviving are his daughter, Shana A. Parks of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren: Brittany (Grant) Inge and Andrew, Noah and Meghan Parks; and his sisters: Sharon Bream, Sue Hand and Gloria Hemcher, all of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by sons, Jason J. Hemcher and Dustin DelMastro; a granddaughter, Alexandria Hemcher; and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn.
James was a 1966 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a graduate of Altoona School of Commerce. After 30 years of service, he retired as a self-employed real estate agent.
James enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in a band. As a handyman, he could fix anything.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his canine companion, Maggie.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona, with Pastor Randy Zitterbart officiating.
