Gary Wayne Fluke, 81, of Roaring Spring, entered eternal rest on Saturday. He was born in Everett, son of the late Roy F. and Lorretta M. (Batzel) Fluke.
On Oct. 2, 1965, in Woodbury, Gary married the love of his life, Connie J. (Schmerbeck), who preceded him in death on July 17, 2026. Together they enjoyed 60 years of wonderful memories and built a loving family.
Gary is survived by the following children: Brenda Fluke-Garber (Doug) of Martinsburg, Karen Cottle (John) of Woodbury, Tammy Fluke of Roaring Spring and Brian Fluke (Sarah Eller) of Fishers, Ind. He was blessed to be called Pap by the following grandchildren: Hayley Norris (JC), Alli Stolarski (Jake), Abby Garber (Chandler Lewis), Gabe and Liam Fluke; and great-granddaughter, Stella Norris. He was also known as Gramps to the following stepgrandchildren: Justine Turcotte (Jeremy), Jessica Caraker (James) and Jaleisa Dick; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Lois Fluke, of James Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
Gary was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and brothers: R. Dean Fluke of James Creek, Donald of Everett and Gerald of James Creek.
Gary graduated from Everett Area High School in 1962 and immediately entered the workforce. He worked more than 25 years as an employee for New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. For as long as his family remembers, he drove charter buses part-time for Blue and White Lines Inc. and eventually retired from Fullington Trailways. As a member of the million-mile club, he enjoyed helping train and mentor young drivers.
Gary was a devoted father, grandfather and Christian who attended First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring.
He was a 50-year member of Woodbury Lodge No. 539 F&AM, Tall Cedars and the Jaffa Shrine.
He enjoyed working on his yard, detailing cars and putting together model trucks. After his retirement, Gary found a new love refinishing and repurposing furniture. With his late wife, he enjoyed watching Penn State and Steelers football and the Gaithers.
The family wants to thank those who helped care for him during his last days at home: Bridget, Debbie and Mindy. Additional appreciation is extended to the staff at AseraCare Hospice.
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, at First Church of the Brethren, 901 Bloomfield St., Roaring Spring, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m.
Additional visitation will be held from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, at the church, with the Rev. Dr. David Crumrine officiating. Burial will be held privately at Holsinger Cemetery.
