Dorothy Jane Cowher, 100, of Tyrone, died Monday at Cedarwood Rehab & Healthcare Center, Tyrone. She was born in Hannah, a daughter of the late Peter and Olive May (Walk) Poullos.
She was married March 29, 1947, in Tyrone, to Albert Lee "Pappy" Cowher, who preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1990.
She is survived by her children: Paul W. Cowher (Barbara), Peter L. Cowher (Kathy) and W. Samuel Cowher (Cathy); grandchildren: Janice, Debbie, Crystal, Kerry, Kristin, Kim, Sam J. and Christi; along with many more great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was the last of her immediate family. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karen; and an infant great-great-grandson, Warren.
She was a member of Tyrone Assembly of God Church and had worked at the J.R. Wald Plant, Poullos Sunshine Restaurant and at Cowher's Grocery.
She was a devoted Christian and read her Bible daily, loved teaching Sunday school, and loved singing, baking, gardening, fishing and time with her whole family.
She was known for her warm smile, gentle spirit and her extreme love of her Lord.
Friends will be received from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, with the Rev. Carl A. Schmidt Sr. officiating. Interment will be at Baughman Cemetery.
