David Leroy Helsley, 85, of Somerset, died Friday at his home. He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late William H. and Lucille B. (Knorr) Helsley.
David was also preceded in death by his brothers: Ron, Bill and Joe Helsley and Rick Walters; and sisters, Shirley Irvin and Linda Robinson.
Surviving are his wife, the former Linda Louise Calvert, to whom he was married for 67 years; children: Kevin Helsley and wife, Wendie; Charisse Lehman and husband, Jim; Shelley Horwitz; and Cristy Pritts and husband, Mark; grandchildren: Zachary, Zane, Lindsey, Elizabeth, Trevor, Dylan, Seth, Alex, Jaime and Devin; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Helsley; and sisters: Pat England, Carole Isenberg, Deb Gardner and Kim Shaffer.
David was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He worked until his retirement as a superintendent for Guelich Explosives Corp.
He was a member of Somerset Alliance Church and loved hunting, fishing, boating and Penn State football.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, at Somerset Alliance Church, where a service will immediately follow at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Donald Robson officiating.
Friends also received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery Chapel, Altoona, where interment will immediately follow.
