Alda D. (Swain) Black

Alda D. (Swain) Black, 91, passed Tuesday at Winds of Mattern Orchard, Duncansville. She was born in Warfordsburg, to Lloyd H. and Margaret Rae Fisher Swain.

She was a 1952 graduate of Southern Fulton High School. She was a secretary for many years at the coal and fuel distributorship, C&R Black Coal Co., Duncansville, with her husband and his brother.

Alda is survived by her son, James L. Black Jr., and wife, Patricia; grandchildren: Justin Cogley (Brittany), Jordan (Kayla), Jennifer Sral, Adam Black, Jennifer Donnelly and Steven Donnelly; and great-grandchildren: Stone Sral, Connor Cogley and Lyla Cogley, all whom she loved very much. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Michael, of Greencastle; brother, Thomas Swain (Judy) of Needmore, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Alda was predeceased by her husband, James L. Black, whom she married in March 1953; daughter, Elaine Faye Cogley; son, Stephen Black; sister, Ruth V. Sweitzer; and brother, Daniel Swain.

Friends will be received from 9 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, Md. Pastor Doug Poffenberger will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Christian Church Cemetery, 5806 Flickerville Road, Warfordsburg.
