Albert Wayne Loughridge Sr., 85, of Altoona, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at UPMC Altoona surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.
Born in Salem, Mo., he was the son of the late William Michael and Grace (Markley) Loughridge. On Oct. 28, 2000, he married Karen A. McIntosh in Altoona.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; his children: Crystal Loughridge, Jennifer (Nathaniel) Guyer-Smith, David (Raina) Guyer Jr., Bailee (Justin) Loughridge and Fern (Ryan) Rader; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters; and his beloved dog, Sonny.
He was preceded in death by three children: Glendon, Albert W. Jr. and Misty Loughridge.
Albert was a man of many jobs and talents, but most importantly a man who was always willing to help another. He never judged people and had a way of accepting others for exactly who they were. He had a passion for being a handyman and could often be found working on something that needed repaired.
Albert was happiest in his kitchen. Cooking was more than something he enjoyed -- it was one of the ways he showed his love. Albert enjoyed country music and could often be found singing or playing his guitar. He was also deeply proud of his Cherokee Indian heritage and loved his country.
He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran during the Vietnam War era.
Albert's greatest joy was his family. He cherished being surrounded by the people he loved, and the holidays were especially meaningful to him.
To honor Albert's wishes, there will be no viewing, visitation or funeral services.
Arrangements are by Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood.
The family suggests that contributions in Albert's memory be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
