Terrence L. "Terry" Koch, 67, Altoona, died early Friday morning at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Richard W. and Martavene H. (Johnsonbaugh) Koch.
Surviving is a niece, Attorney Traci L. Naugle of Altoona; and numerous extended family members.
Terry was preceded in death by his sister, Lucinda L. "Cindie" Naugle onDec. 23, 2019.
He was a 1977 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a 1992 graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education followed by a master's degree in counseling in 1996. Terry was employed as an elementary school teacher and then as a school counselor by the Altoona Area School District until he retired in 2016 after more than 20 years of service.
He was a dedicated and continually active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona, where he served as church treasurer,
technical coordinator and music coordinator. He organized the monthly meal and clothing giveaways. He was a member of the Synod Council - Allegheny Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a member of the board of HOPE Drop-in Center and Lutheran Advocacy Ministry of Pennsylvania. He was a volunteer at The Healing Patch and he was an active member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR).
Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., the Rev. Traci Marriott officiating.
Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in memory of Terry please be made the Bethany Lutheran Church, 200 Third Ave., Altoona, PA 16602 or to Mending Hearts Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 97, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
