Robert J. Herman, 88, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Thursday. He was born in Johnstown, son of the late Demeter and Mary (Cibulas) Herman.
He married Sylvia (Vedock) in 1992.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years; a daughter, Janice Herman; two stepdaughters, Patricia Porcelan and husband, Dave, and Jacqueline Walko and husband, Scott; two sons, Rob and wife, Linda, and Dan and wife, Kandi; a stepson, James Widmann; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Schumann; four sisters: Peggy, Helen, Connie and Ann; and five brothers: Steve, Joe, Tom, John and John.
Bob graduated from Catholic High of Johnstown and served in the U.S. Air Force.
He worked as a Customer Engineer at IBM for more than 30 years, where he received five Outstanding Customer Service Awards. The last six years of his career, he worked for IU8 Schools as a Customer Engineer.
Bob enjoyed making stained glass windows and creations, working on his 1955 Chrysler Imperial, restoring antique cars, painting murals, creating shadow boxes, putting together jigsaw puzzles, completing daily crossword puzzles and boogie boarding with his grandchildren.
In 1997 when Legion Park was being built, Bob and his wife cut out and painted the original wooden characters.
He also loved playing baseball and on July 26, 1952, he pitched a perfect game.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, with Father Alan E. Thomas, officiating.
