John M. Hazlett, 90, Altoona, peacefully departed this life on Thursday to be reunited with his Lord and Savior. Born in Johnstown, he was the cherished son of the late Paul and Pearl (Ritchey) Hazlett.
In February of 1960, John united in marriage with Alma Darlene Grove, sharing 66 years of love and companionship. She preceded him in death on May 29, 2026.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Jeff Hazlett and his wife, Jackie, of Altoona. His legacy also lives on through numerous devoted grandchildren and great-grandchildren who hold him close in their hearts. He is also survived by siblings: Joe, Jim, Judy, Genevieve and Jerry.
He was preceded in death by four sons: John, Jay, Joseph and Eric; and a sister, Janet.
During his working years, he was employed as a supervisor for Stroehmann Bakery. John's faith was an important part of his life. He was a faithful member of Dry Run Independent Baptist Church in Duncansville and he served for 15 years as Dean of the Altoona Bible Institute.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., 719 N. Fourth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
