Herbert Leo Schilling, 78, of Hollidaysburg, passed away July 31, 2026, at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late William Leo and Margaret (McDermott) Schilling.
On July 29, 1972, Herb married his beloved wife, Susan (Long) Schilling. Together, they shared 54 years of marriage filled with love, devotion and countless cherished memories.
In addition to his wife, Herb is survived by his loving children, Annette and Jordan (Brendon) Jobs; his sister, Sharon Bowmaster; and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Smith; his nephew, William Smith Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Gerald Bowmaster.
After graduating from Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School in 1966, Herb spent more than three decades working as a machinist for Conrail and Norfolk Southern. He was a proud member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen throughout his career. In addition, Herb was known for painting many residences and commercial properties throughout Blair County.
Herb found joy in traveling, lending a helping hand whenever needed and spending time with those he loved most. He was a hardworking and dependable person whose kindness, generosity and unwavering commitment to family left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
Family and friends will be received from 5 until the 5:30 p.m. memorial service Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, officiated by Pastor James Neatrour.
A private burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Hollidaysburg.
