George A. "Jerry" Russell, 84, of Altoona, passed away Friday at his residence. He was born in Altoona, son of the late George and Mary (Russell) Russell.
He married Lori M. Brandt in 1991. She preceded him in death in 2025 after sharing 34 years of marriage.
Surviving are his daughter, Dana Russell; a son, Donny Russell; a stepson, Shane Swanger; six grandchildren: Kirsten, Jordan, Korey, Alexa, Shane Jr. and Dylan; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen "Kathy" Hurliman; and a brother, Richard "Dick" Russell.
He was also preceded in death by his twin brother, Thomas.
Jerry was a 1959 Altoona High School graduate and retired after 41 years at Penelec.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve, Pennsylvania Army National Guard and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Jerry served twice as Past Master of Logan Lodge No. 490 F&AM, where he celebrated his 60-year membership; and a member of the Jaffa Shriners, where he was a member of the Arab Patrol for more than 50 years. He was also a member of The Well of Blair County.
Jerry enjoyed the Pittsburgh Pirates and Altoona Curve baseball, bowling, Dunkin Donut Coffee mornings with his friends and watching golf.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2026, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a Masonic Service will begin at 4 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow the 4 p.m. Masonic Service.
Private interment at Blair Memorial Park.
