Daniel W. Hegarty Sr., 84, of Antis Township, passed away Sunday evening at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Oliver W. and Elva (Deaner) Hegarty.
On May 30, 1962, he married Charlene B. Tomlinson at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Altoona.
Dan is survived by his wife; a son, Daniel W. (wife, Peggy) Hegarty Jr.; three daughters: Susan (husband, Mick) McBurney, Karen (Donnie Seymour) Wingrove and Jennifer (Jarrett Edmonds) Franks; seven grandchildren: Jessica, Haley, Joey, Lisa, Brandi, Carlee and Alexis; eight great-grandchildren: Haleigh, Aubrey, Blake, Caroline, Oliver, Lilly, Reece and Brody; several great-great grandchildren; and his sister, Joyce (Dan) Tomlinson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl; a granddaughter, Meadow Franks; a sister, Marna Stiffler; and sons-in-law, Mike and Edward.
Dan served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War era.
He was a dairy farmer and retired as an auto mechanic and owner of Hegarty Garage.
Dan loved to work and enjoyed hunting, working on cars, racing and travel.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, at the funeral home with Pastor Nathan Koozer officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
