Richard W. Hoover, a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday of natural causes at the age of 88. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Jacob and Hazel Hoover.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Kathleen Judith (Pritchard) Hoover; and four sons: Alan Hoover, Jason R. Hoover (Carly), Michael A. Hoover (Dawn) and Marc W. Hoover. Richard's legacy lives on through these sons, as well as his seven grandchildren: Tyler, McKenna, Kaley, Rachel, Nate, Maya and Max; and a great-grandchild, Archer. All of his grandchildren were a constant source of joy and pride for him.
His sister, Louise, preceded him in death.
Richard shared an extraordinary life with his beloved wife, Kathleen Judith (Pritchard) Hoover. Together, they built a family rooted in love and respect.
He was a 1957 graduate of Altoona High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1957 and proudly served for three years. Richard was a dedicated employee of Devicchis Block Plant, now known as Beavertown Block Plant in East Freedom. He retired after working more than 40 years as the office manager.
Not only was he a great employee, he was also a great father to his four children whom he raised in Roaring Spring. He was an avid baseball fan and a collector of many things, including mainly baseball cards, coins and records. Richard enjoyed attending baseball games, where he was a season ticket holder for the Altoona Curve from the very first season. He genuinely loved to be with his family. Anyone who knew Richard knew he was truly one unique guy. He was known for his quick wit, and always brought a sense of humor to anyone who knew him.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved and always remembered. Though his presence is gone, the laughter, love and all the memories he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
