Louise J. Hinterberger

July 10, 1933 – July 3, 2026

Hinterberger

Louise Hinterberger, 92, of Altoona, returned home to her Lord on Friday. She was the daughter of Frank and Stephanie (Emerdinger) Eggerstorfer. Louise was born in Altoona, and spent her youth on Dutch Hill surrounded by friends and classmates, and had been a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

On April 30, 1955, she married her beloved husband, Charles Hinterberger, who preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 2012. She was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

Louise is survived by two sons and a daughter: Dr. Charles Hinterberger Jr. of Altoona, Dr. Steven Hinterberger and his wife, Vicki, of Butler and Lisa Farrell and her husband, Bruce, of Lexington, Ky.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Sandy.

Louise spent almost her entire employed life working at Butterick Co. Inc. She made many lasting friends whom she cherished. She would regularly go to lunch with Dorie, Shirley and a rotating cast of friends.

There will be many tears shed, but if we are honest, they are not tears for our mother, but rather tears for our loss. My mother was blessed with good health most of her life, even up to the very end. We will miss her sarcastic sense of humor and the volume at which she spoke.

Someday, if my brother and sister and I are blessed to go to Heaven, we will be reunited with our family. I don’t think they will be hard to find. Just look for the simple house with the manicured lawn and beautiful flowers all around. I can smell the turkey dinner (that never runs out of white meat). When I get close to the house, I will hear the strains of the polka music that my mother loved. I imagine I will open the door to the sound of John Koza’s Polka Hour and the sight of my mother and her sister, Marcella, doing the polka in the living room. Off to the side will be my Uncle Walter in his Lederhosen keeping time. Only then will I know that I am in Heaven.

There will be no visitation.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1405 Fifth Ave., Altoona, with Father Mariusz Gorazd, celebrant. Committal will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Altoona.

Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary Inc., Altoona.

The family kindly requests that contributions be made in Louise’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, 1523 Adams Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.
